Aptos Threading

Aptos Threading

A non-surgical method of lifting facial skin and improving facial contours. This procedure avoids invasive surgery and provides mild to moderate skin tightening results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Many Threads Are Used for Aptos Threading?

The number of threads required for lifting and enhancing the face depends on the severity of your laxity, lines, folds and wrinkles and which areas need improvement. Some cosmetic surgeons recommend using five threads on each side (three to raise the cheeks and two to draw back sagging jowls), totaling 10 threads in a normal procedure. Some patients may require more if there are deep folds or where the drooping is more severe. The quantity of threads will increase if treatment is combined with other areas such as raising the eyebrows and pulling back the neck.

Aptos Threading vs Facelift

Traditionally, the facelift was the only way to lift sagging skin and to improve facial contours. Being a plastic surgery procedure, facelifts are much more invasive than Aptos threading (which is a non surgical means of lifting, often referred to as a Light Feather Lift).

A face lift requires incisions which inevitably leaves the patient with scarring. The scars are often hidden in natural creases or along the hairline and behind the ear. The pain factor and risks involved are much higher with face lifting. The recovery process also takes considerably longer, making Aptos threading the preferred alternative.

Whilst the procedure offers a less invasive option, Aptos threads can only improve mild laxity. Face lifts can provide a much more dramatic effect which, with today’s modern techniques, also looks natural. If the sagging or wrinkles are severe, then Aptos thread lifting may not provide a satisfactory result. This is why facelifts are more appropriate to older patients whilst Aptos threading is suitable for younger persons.

Can Aptos Threading Lift Other Areas of the Body?

No. Aptos thread lifting is designed specifically for the face and neck. Whilst the technique may be used on other bodily areas in the future, to date the technique remains specific to the facial area. The areas which are treated on the face depend on the imperfection that you are seeking to improve.

Zygomatic arch ptosis is treated by lifting the outer brow. Lifting the cheeks can alleviate buccal and infraorbital ptosis. Mental ptosis, such as the jowls are treated by focusing on the jaw line. The neck is targeted for repairing submental ptosis. The first facial areas to start sagging during the aging process are the cheeks and brows. Older patients also experience loss of elasticity in their lower face.

Will Aptos Threading Tighten My Face Immediately?

The first few days you will be swollen and possibly have bruises. You may not be able to notice a change during this time due to the puffiness. You may also have discoloration from minor intraoperative bleeding (the bruising). Once the swelling subsides (usually within 3 to 5 days) you will see an immediate improvement. However, the results won’t be fully noticeable until about 6 months after the procedure. The improvement occurs due to the threads stimulating collagen production, which usually occurs around the 3 to 6 months period. Some patients may not see any improvement.

What Happens if An Aptos Thread Moves or Protrudes?

Sometimes Aptos treads can be dislodged or even start to protrude from your skin. If this happens, don’t try to fix the problem. Try not to touch the thread at all; otherwise it may need to be removed unnecessarily. Removing the thread is a much more arduous procedure than inserting it. Go back to your cosmetic surgeon and have them massage the thread back into place. It may even require removal. You can help avoid these problems if you follow your surgeon’s recovery guidelines. This generally requires not making exaggerated facial expressions, massaging, rubbing or otherwise disturbing the face for up to one week after the lifting procedure.
